In a way it's a culmination of forward thinking cultural production done as a racing game. Wipeouts track are obviously based in some sense on futuristic versions of English industrial working towns. I actually think they should change and update the look, whoever was working at Psygnosis, picked the music and hired The Designers Republic knew what was forward thinking music, design at that moment. Now it's not completely unrealistic to have the PS5 launch with a new Wipeout, but if it does, I really hope they opt for a more realistic rendering this time around. the striped asphalt tracks created this great sensation of speed almost having a sort of Eadweard Muybridge effect if you hit the right speed. Ice cool graphic design, industrial race tracks that had interesting architecture that weren't too out there. To me Wipeout in the PSX Days always felt more like a sort of futuristic Gran Turismo. The graphics are too bloomy, the colors are oversatured and the light trails look too comicy and it's just too kiddy for lack of a better word. They have been getting better especially with Wipeout HD, but all entries since Wip3out still feel like whoever is making them doesn't really understand Wipeout at it's core. Somebody made a Wipeout in Dreams and it amazed me (controls aside) how it partly got Wipeout more right than the official offering and how badly I still long for a proper Wipeout 4.
